Greetings: the usual welcome from Hedley & excellent response from Abdulla: bright, cheerful & enthusiastic manner.
Opening statement: he loves his job & is keen to work for ADNOC, a company he feels pays well & has a good reputation.
Old Ahmed asked a number of questions clearly e.g. can you work under pressure & can you work in a team. Abdulla answered positively to these questions. Old Ahmed then asked why he should hire Abdulla. Abdulla said he was on a degree programme & therefore highly qualified, more than the holder of a higher diploma. He said he was considering going on to a master’s degree. He said his goal was to be Head of Department.
New Ahmed asked about outside interests, which were bowling & ice skating; he’d given up ice hockey due to a back injury.
Abdulla said his strengths were patience and optimism. He believed a good electrical engineer needs to be well-organised & knowledgeable.
Finally, Abdulla, given the opportunity to ask questions himself, wanted to know who he’d work for & Old Ahmed dealt with this in detail.
Hedley ended the interview at 1045.

Hedley welcomed Ali, who introduced himself confidently.
Salem: Goals? To become someone important in my country. Experience? Trained for 2 months with ADNOC, where I trained to be a technician. Why ESI? My brother works here & you have a high reputation.
Qualifications? GP 3.8. I am adaptable & can work anywhere.
Ali asked how the company was doing & Salem said it was one of the best & most profitable in the Middle East. Ali then asked about his responsibilities and was told he'd have to do some office work & some site work. Ali: would you help me to get a master's. Yousef said yes, the company would sponsor him; Salem qualified this by saying only after 3 years.

Interviewee: Ameer
Position: electrical engineer, Emirates Aluminium
Hedley welcomed Ameer who introduced himself clearly. He said he had been to an EMAL presentation to learn about the company. He wanted to work 2 days on (12 hour shifts) & 4 days off.
Salem: nights & weekends? I live only 20 minutes from the plant; no problem. Experience? Not so far.
Yousef asked about his education. GPA 3.9. I'm good at maths & physice; I'm a student & I have 1 semester left. Goals? Be a good engineer; get a good position in this company. Work under pressure? I sometimes work 0800-1600 but no problem. Do you want to continue your studies? Yes, will you sponsor me?
Ameer asked what his responsibilities would be: be punctual, always observe safety procedures carefully; you will get a 4-week initial training programme.

Position: electrical engineer, ADNOC
Hedley welcomed Ayoob, who introduced himself. He said he'd had 1 month's training with EMAL but it was too far for him to travel on a daily basis.
Salem: where did you study your major? ADMC bachelor's course.GPA 3.7. Married? Not yet. Salary? Dhs 35,000.
Yousef: what do you think of our company? My brother & 2 friends work here & they told me it was good. Shift work? No problem for me. Outside interests? My family & football.
Ayoob asked what his precise position would be. Yousef said he'd work daily in the office or shift work in the workshop. Will you give me grade 14? Yousef: it depends on your grades & GPA. Ayoob said he didn't want to work in an office but preferred to improve his workshop skills.
